Scars and Pimple Scars

Scars are formed when damage to the skin in deep enough so that the skin cannot repair itself back to its orderly original structure. The body then lays down more fibrous and elastic tissue to form scars.

Scars are pinker when fresh but gradually turns lighter in colour with time. Scars that shrink and are depressed are called Atrophic. Occasionally scars become enlarged , protrudes and may even itch or become sensitive. These are either hypertrophic scars or keloids.

It is not known why keloids form in some people even after apparently minor injuries.
